We read these words in Matthew 6:
14 “For if you forgive others their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive you your sins.
Matthew 6:14, 15
In this chapter, Jesus tells a parable that explains that teaching in verse 23-35. I would add to that, that we don’t really understand how we have been forgiven if we don’t then forgive others. In some sense, then, we’ve never truly received the forgiveness Christ has died to provide.
I also wanted to say that this phrase gave me great pleasure in the reading in the NET version. I think it’s not in the NIV. “2 What do you think? If someone owns a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go look for the one that went astray?”
