My take on the parables is basically this. Jesus wants followers. Followers will pursue the meaning of a parable. In the disciples’ case, they could ask Jesus. In our case, we have the text to see those answers, and when they aren’t there we must pursue the meaning as fiercely as we can. Others can help in that pursuit.
The visit to Nazareth is just sad. A reminder that Jesus heals where faith is.
What struck me in this chapter is the idea of sorting – that in his mercy, the Lord does not strike down the evil people immediately as that would also destroy those in his kingdom. He lets them grow up together (the wheat field) and he catches everyone together (the fisherman). But then the sorting happens, and the evil ones are destroyed. This is a comfort to me that there will be justice one day and his timing is for my good.
