  1. Some Christians love to study and talk about The End Times, especially lately, with floods, earthquakes, wars, etc. I recall Pastor Scott Gassoway quoting Mark 13 regarding the end times, “this is only the first of the birth pains” (verse 8). For people who are very interested in the end times, Mark 13 is an excellent place on which to focus the conversation.

BUT just as important as determining whether or not we are in the end times, or even more important, are the last 6 verses of Mark 13. These verses are often ignored by people who are borderline infatuated with End Time discussions. (and they don’t like it when I bring this up and they try to change the subject back to the signs of the end times). The last 6 verses are about “Given that the end times are coming sooner than later and we won’t know exactly when…how then are we called TO LIVE?” We are to “be on guard”, “stay alert”, be doing the work he has called us to do, “keep watch” for his return. When thinking about the end times, questions I ask myself are, “Do I know what the Lord’s work for me is?” “Am I doing it?” “Lord, do you have other work you want me to be doing?”

  2. Stay alert! I love that in all the insight to His second coming and direction to stay alert , that Jesus gives us also something so specific to pray for in verse 18.
“Pray that it may not happen in winter.”
Merciful Lord, let it not happen in winter in Jesus name. Amen.

  3. I agree with Barb! Some of these prophecies make no sense to me – but that’s okay. One of their purposes is to tell me to live obediently TODAY. When I was young, the end times terrified me. I was afraid of them coming. And honestly not much has changed about how I feel, I just know how to cope better. The truth is they ARE scary, but I don’t think that’s why these prophecies are included in Scripture. God doesn’t scare us into his kingdom. Stay close to the Lord and do what he says. He will be enough no matter the state of the world.
