The author of Hebrews issues five warnings in this letter. The first one is issued in chapter two, verses one through four. Pay attention! We don’t want to drift away from the truth of salvation announced by Jesus and confirmed by the disciples and apostles who heard him announce it. God confirmed this truth through signs and wonders. The author appeals to the readers to pay attention or face the consequences of ignoring this salvation. Consequences more assured than even the Law.
This warning tells us that the receivers of the letter are believers, who have received this salvation, but who are in danger of drifting away from their salvation.
But wait, there’s more. After the warning, the writer tells us that Jesus did become human and why he did so … to share in the suffering we, his sisters and brothers suffer through, so that he could atone for our sins and become the merciful and faithful high priest we need.
This is rich stuff. What captures your attention in this chapter?
