Genesis 1-2, Psalm 1.

Origin. The first book of our bible. This is the account of “God” bringing order to chaos. Making a world that is like a garden — hospitable for humanity and a place where God can dwell with humanity. In the second telling of creation, we learn of God’s purpose for humanity, to manage his created world, and learn of the foundational relationship between men and women — to be as one flesh, and to till and keep (have charge over) the garden.

Psalm note: Like an entrance into the entire book of Psalms, those who do not take the path of sinners, are invited into the rest of the book. Two paths: those who delight in the law of the Lord, and those who do not. I would be a tree planted by the water.

  1. I read this a couple days ago and was struck again by how powerful God’s words are. I’m praying that I will hear his words more in 2024!
