Digging Deeper.

We start on our read through journey today. Hooray! I had to restrain myself to keep from reading the entire first week’s readings before we even started.

As I was reviewing the reading plan, I thought it might be appropriate to say a few words about the section titled “5 ways to dig deeper.” What the Navigators have done in this section is to provide some techniques to, well, dig deeper into the text. So that there is no confusion, this is how I read this section.

  1. You don’t have to dig deeper if you just want to do the readings. You’re encouraged to do so, but please choose your level of engagement.
  2. If you already have your own ways for interacting with your bible reading, by all means stick to them if you want to.
  3. The Navigators are not suggesting you do all five techniques they have listed in the plan. In fact, any one is sufficient to “dig deeper.”
  4. If you haven’t used any of these techniques before, I recommend you follow their suggestion to try each one out for a week and see which one is the most helpful.
  5. You certainly can practice more than one of these techniques each day, but I recommend that you not over-burden your daily routine.
  6. You may also find it helpful to switch your daily routine from time to time by switching between the different techniques.

Since we’re all here to learn from one another, if you have a particular way that you study as you read the bible that’s not listed in the plan, I encourage you to share what you do in the comments.

I am really excited to see what God has in store for us in 2023!
