With an incredible demonstration of the Holy Spirit’s power, the church was born.

41 So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about 3,000 people were added.

Such a time …

42 They were devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.43 Reverential awe came over everyone … And the Lord was adding to their number every day those who were being saved.

  1. “Brothers, what should we do?”

    38 Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.”

    I love the simplicity of Peter’s response. So clear, so straightforward.

    I may have mentioned it before, but I REALLY want to experience the Holy Spirit’s power more. I feel like something is missing – why don’t I see people healed? Why don’t I see deliverance from demons? Jesus said we would do what he did – and more! This is my prayer for this year.

    1. Yes. More. I am listening to a John Piper sermon in which he intends to address this. When I finish listening, I’ll post the link if it seems relevant.

      1. A number of years ago, an older couple here on the field who I really respect recommended a book called River Dwellers by Rob Reimer. It was the best explanation of what being filled with the Spirit I have ever heard. I went on to read Spiritual Authority and have just started Soul Care. I also went on a YouTube rabbit hole during a personal retreat and watched a lot of him speaking. I recommend his work! https://renewalinternational.org/
