This chapter shows us in some detail what Paul’s pattern of evangelism looked like. First stop always the synagogue. Teach this message: set the stage for Jesus’ entry into the world, show how he is connected to what Yahweh said would take place (through his prophets), tell of his death and resurrection, and invite the listeners to be freed from sin by believing in Jesus. Let the gentiles know the message was for them too. And usually, meet resistance from some group of Jews, and get driven out.
I particularly like how this chapter ends, “52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.” The disciples in this case would be the disciples in Psidian Antioch.
As always, you are invited to share your thoughts in the comments.
I love reading about Paul and all the disciples (from right then and through the age). Their love of Jesus and obedience to go proclaim the Good News according to God’s will is how God worked so that we are now filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.
And now, as we proclaim the Gospel of Christ, through faith, love, and obedience in Jesus makes a way for others to come to be filled with joy and the Holy Spirit through believing. God’s wisdom!!! Hallelujah!
