The writer of Hebrews is concluding his arguments for the readers to not leave their faith. The fourth warning is delivered in verses 26-31: don’t deliberately choose apostasy.
An important point we need to see is that deliberately sinning IS referring to choosing apostasy, which is a knowing, deliberate rejection of Jesus’ great work for us on the cross. We will all sin even after repenting and accepting Jesus’ work on the cross. Those sins are not what the writer is talking about.
1) Hebrews 10:25 “…encourage one another…” Thank you for encouraging us, Jim, for organizing this 5x5x5 reading and blog and posting your insights.
2) Hebrews 10:10 “…we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Hebrews 10:14 “For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”
Jesus is the total, perfect SACRIFICE for us and has paid it all. But at the same time, we are called to “offer our bodies as a living sacrifice…” Romans 12:1.
We have been made HOLY through Christ (v. 10), but at the same time, we are “being made holy” (v. 14)…note the present, on-going tense, and we are called to “Be holy because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16)
