Genesis 24-26, Psalm 9

The story of Abraham’s servant finding Isaac’s wife Rebekah catches my attention in the reading today. We hear the servant’s request of God to help him find the right woman, that is give me a sign, an oracle. Rebekah responds in just the way the servant had asked of God. Then it’s all repeated to Laban and Bethuel. This serves as two witnesses to the oracle the servant had asked for.

Can you hear the servant? Can you hear the servant again? Imagine later Hebrews sitting in a tent, or by a fire, hearing the message yet again. So formal, and also melodic.

Psalm note: This is a powerful witness to God the righteous, the warrior for David and Israel, the stronghold for the oppressed. I call out verse 11: “Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion.
Declare his deeds among the peoples.”
