Genesis 6-9, Psalm 3.

The first four verses of chapter six present interesting challenges to our understanding. But it appears that these sons of God (are they the Nephilim?) and their actions may have contributed to the thorough wickedness described in verse five. Whatever the cause, God choose to reboot his creation.

And after the flood, the commission for humanity is the same as it was to Adam and Eve: “And you, be fruitful and multiply, abound on the earth and have dominion over it.” (Genesis 9:7 NSRVUE).

There is much to ponder here.

Psalm note: This psalm records a time when David was in a real pickle. His faith in Yahweh sustains him — “I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.” He concludes the psalm with these good words we can take to heart: “From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.” (Psalm 3:8 NIV)
